Patrick Caulfield, 1936 - 2005
Caulfield is widely regarded as a representative of the third generation of British Pop Art. His first solo exhibition was held in 1965 in London, from this his international reputation was quickly established and a string of one-man shows of his work were held in the UK and in many countries throughout the world. A retrospective of his work was held at the Tate Gallery in London in 1981.
His earlier work was influenced by a number of artists, including Lichstenstein but Caulfield's flat colours, ordinary interiors and black outlines are individual and distinct.
